Bamboo and Steel Coffee Table

$595.00

This table is 40.5” long by 20” wide by 18” tall or 103 x 51 × 46mm. Made by hand from Plyboo® bamboo plywood and blackened and oil rubbed ¾ x 1 ½” steel tubing. The top is cut oversized, its edges rounded, then cut to final size, glued and then splines are cut using a precision jig. The splines are made from full strand bamboo stock, glued into place and then trimmed using a Japanese hand saw. I cut the steel, clean up all the edges and surfaces with a file and wire brush, then tig weld the frame to ensure strength in the joints and good alignment. Very little grinding is done afterwards. Then the corners are filed round. And the whole base is cleaned again and then given two coats of blackening solution. Once that is dry I rub an oil solution into the steel that helps prevent rust. And finally I insert plastic feet into the ends of the steel tubes. Once the base is ready I sand and then finish the whole top section with two coats of zero-VOC Rubio Monocoat. The whole building process tales two full working days. Plus the ordering of materials and drying time for the finish takes 3.-5 working days.

These coffee tables can be custom made to nearly any size using nearly any wood you prefer. I work with walnut, white oak, cherry or even soft wood like douglas fir. Contact me and we can work out what will work best for you. Once you’ve decided what size you need I’ll do a scale drawing and send that for approval along with an invoice for the materials. Once your deposit is received materials are purchased and work gets started on making your table. The whole process takes about two to three weeks depending on workload.
